What are Shields?
Shield strategies are counterproductive behaviors we engage in to distract ourselves from complicated chapters of our life stories.
When you use one or more shield strategies you are needlessly running away from truths about your life experiences that, once accepted, will free you to create the life you deserve.
Your emotions, including the painful ones, won't destroy your life, they will help you come fully to life.
These are common shield strategies:
- Overeating
- Overspending
- Obsessing over a romantic relationship
- Constantly arguing with loved ones
- Obsessing over dieting
- Obsessively exercising
- Sexual indiscretions or sexual addiction
- Perfectionism
- Staying online for hours
- Addiction to pornography or gambling
- Cigarettes, alcohol or drugs
Shields like those listed above mask memories, realizations and emotions from events earlier in your life.
Carrying any of these shields prevents you from seeing and feeling the truth that can lead to a real sense of authenticity and personal power. It's time to begin putting your shield(s) down and living the truth.
